The run before it leaves: what is checked on every dangerous goods load.

Moving explosive, flammable and corrosive freight leaves no room for a paperwork error, and the cost of one is carried by the operator. This is what has to be checked before the truck leaves, run after run. It is written from DGC, the compliance platform built with Xtreme Freight, where the paperwork per run went from 8 hours to under 30 minutes with zero errors across 120 tonnes in the first pilot.

Eleven things, every run.

  1. What is on the load.Every item with its UN number, class and packing group, from the consignment, not from memory.
  2. What may travel together.Segregation checked for this combination of goods, against the Australian Dangerous Goods Code, not against what usually goes.
  3. Whether the load crosses the placarding threshold. The quantity decides what the vehicle has to carry and show. Worked out per load.
  4. The placards for this load, on this vehicle. The right class, the right positions, checked by someone who is not the person who loaded.
  5. The transport document. The manifest with the shipper's declaration, matching what is actually on the truck.
  6. Emergency information for the goods on board.Carried in the cab, for exactly these goods, current.
  7. The driver and the vehicle licensed for this class and quantity.Checked against expiry dates, not against the roster.
  8. The equipment on the vehicle.Fire extinguishers, protective equipment, spill kit, as the load requires.
  9. Who checked, and when. The cross-check recorded with a name and a time. The standard lives in a system, not in one person who knows which placard goes on which load.
  10. Proof of delivery matched to the consignment.Photos, signatures and times tied to the load, so a dispute is answered in minutes.
  11. One record per run, kept and searchable.Every consignment tracked end to end with a full audit trail, so a regulator or a customer is answered from the record.

What this looks like when it is built.

DGC is the dangerous goods compliance platform built with Xtreme Freight, a national logistics provider, live since 2023. It turns the compliance knowledge the business had built up into a system that applies the same standard to every load: paperwork per run in under 30 minutes, down from 8 hours, zero paperwork errors across 120 tonnes of dangerous goods in the first pilot, every consignment tracked end to end. Read the DGC case study.

If the cross-check still depends on the two people who know the rules, the first stage is two weeks with them to capture the standard and validate it against real consignments before anything is built. Where AI applies in logistics.
